To check for patent or trust supplier?

Hi guys, I’m contacting with suppliers, and a supplier offer me product new in design and color. Do I still need to check if the product is patented? I need your help please!

Quick story - I found a unit I really liked , cheap and great margins, the factory said they created it and had a patent on it in china! So I was pumped I found the original makers of the unit and would go with them. Did product design, started working on my listing as we finalized everything and last second I decided to just double check patents in USA to see. Well, there was a patent on the exact same design but I thought maybe the us patent copied this Chinese factory. So it was simple who files the patent first. Chinese factory - April 2017. American person February 2017. And there it was, clear as day, the Chinese factory stole this guys design. So lesson learned don’t trust anybody, do your homework ten times over 😁👍🏼
